Nick Garber
Nick Garber is an American comic book artist born in Walnut Creek, CA in 1978. He had been teaching himself how to draw since he was 5, looking at comic books such as Superman and Batman. Nicks art really started to develop to a more polished and professional comic book style when he was attending California State University, Fresno while pursuing a degree in Graphic Art and Design. The long and rigorous art program gave Nick many hours at the drawing table, polishing his skills as a penciler. After college Nick worked as a Graphic Designer for a small design firm in Sacramento, CA for just under a year. Even though Nick was working in the art field his true passion and calling was in the medium of comic book art. Nick quit his job and began to pursue that endeavor. Nick Garber strongly believes in always bettering your artwork and sharing what you know to the younger artists he encounters often staying after closing at conventions and attending drawing meet ups. He uses a detailed comic book style often used by the likes of Neil Adams, Jim Lee, Todd McFarlane, and Rob Liefeld.
One of the many influences in Nick Garber’s art and writing was his time served in the Army as an Infantryman with multiple deployments under his belt. His limited downtime was spent drawing short comics for his teammates to provide some entertainment in between missions. Nicks experiences in the army matured his character development and writing leading to the creation of is creator owned title, The Phantom Hawk that was well received during his convention appearances in California. Nicks artist influences are Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Neil Adams, Jim Lee, Jae Lee, Todd McFarlane, Gregg Capullo, Mark Silvestri, and Wally Wood.
Nick hopes to inspire the younger generations of comic book artists with his 90’s style of comic book art as well as share his knowledge with them. Always making himself available for short tutorials and tips when he can. Nick can often be found doing live feeds on social media as he draws and talks about his approaches to the art at hand. He has worked on multiple titles either drawing, writing, or creating the characters. Nicks list of titles he has worked on include: The Phantom Hawk, The Last Pendragon, Solarin Prime, The Ape, Corvid & Sparrow, and his current comic The Crimson Guardians. Nick currently resides in Texas and is the President and Chief Financial Officer for Apogee Comics as well as being one of their main artists.
